St. John Must-See
Leave all your worries behind when you check into your St. John villa and explore all the island has to offer. Find the Annaberg Sugar Plantation Ruins inside the National Park. Travel into the year 1780 and discover how sugar, molasses and rum were produced and tour the mill ruins. Enjoy viewing historic photographs and documents at the Elaine Lone Sprauve Library & Museum. Take a short hike off Northshore Road and find the grassy overlook and sugar mill tower at Peace Hill Ruins. Hike through the National Park on the Reef Bay Trail. You’ll descend 937 feet into a shady forest and have the chance to explore four sugar estates with petroglyph rock carvings.
St. John Activities
In addition to hiking the many trails inside the National Park, you can also view the underwater trail in Trunk Bay. This park is a fantastic experience even for novice snorkelers. If you are looking for wildlife, take a chance at Salt Bay and hope for a chance to swim with sea turtles. When To Go
Peak travel season to visit a St. John villa rental is January through April. The best time to snorkel is early summer though – the winds are calmer keeping the water ambient. Yearly average temperatures range between 70-90°F. During peak travel period, temperatures are slightly lower and range 70-80°; evenings may require a light seater or jacket. Rainy season is generally the fall, however, rain is typically only a short burst and clears quickly.
St. John Travel Tips
- Driving is done on the left side of the street. Cell phone use while driving is prohibited.
- Dress code is casual in most locations. Bathing suits are only appropriate at the beach and pool.
- As St. John does not have her own airport, ferry is the most common way to get to the island.
- Currency is USD and credit cards are widely accepted (sometimes with a processing fee)
- Weather in the summer months average temperatures in the mid 80°s, while the cooler months (Dec-Feb) average in the mid to high 70°s
- We recommend a 4-wheel drive rental car while staying at your St. John villa rental – this will allow for easier navigation through the island's hilly terrain.
